08-04-2026 - Today, August 4th, I received an email from the USPS saying my stamp order had been shipped and would arrive on July 30th. Well, thanks for the heads up! This is the stamp order I had a big dispute with USPS about not shipping after 13 days, but charging my credit card on the day I ordered. I disputed the charge with my credit card company and closed my USPS account. The day after USPS confirmed the account was closed, I received the stamps. I had no idea they were coming. So, I withdrew the credit card dispute. This was nothing compared to my Lowe's "Generator order from Hell" experience. I don't even want to think about that!

08-04-2026 - Twice, at different Walmart locations 100 miles apart, I was approached by employees of the Frist Convenience Bank to open an account. I told both employees that I saw no need to change banks after all these years. Both told me that, in my case, I could open an additional "secret" account. One of them told me I could use it to hide money from my wife.

08-04-2026 - I saw a funny TikTok video involving Uber, and it reminded me of how the local and state “powers that be” vigorously protected taxi companies from competition. Now there’s Uber and Lyft. Well, we still have the old-school Yellow cab, too. Ours has had the same phone number for 60 years that I know of.

08-04-2026 - The number of Extra Income Mail Order publications has dropped dramatically in the last 35 years. From adsheets to magazines to tabloids, they've disappeared one by one. I suppose the number of related websites has increased over the same period, and that's a good thing, but it's hard to replace good old print publications. Progress, I guess.

08-04-2026 - Good Morning. It's Tuesday, and J. Wellington Wimpy comes to mind. In the old Popeye cartoons, Wimpy would say, "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." You have to be old to remember that one. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

08-03-2026 - I think I’ve finally finished tinkering with the advertising offer. I want to do things slightly differently from other online ad publishers. First, I favor plain text over scanned documents. I also favor products and services over programs and systems. So, my advertising offer is really a reflection of me. I did make it possible for advertisers to deliver any programs they might have, on request, without hyping them in an ad. Check it all out and submit your ads!

08-03-2026 - Do you remember making school book covers from brown grocery sacks? I have no idea when that ended, but it’s been a few years. That skill was right up there with making three-stick kites out of newspaper.

08-03-2026 - Today, among other goodies, I received a 12-page sales letter promoting a money-making program. I knew I wasn't going to read it when I felt the thickness of the envelope. But I opened it so I could count the pages. It made a big ball, which made my toss to the trash can more accurate. I like one-page wonders, but not "program" one-page-wonders!

08-03-2026 - They’re the worst of the absolute worst: scams that target people who have already lost money to a scam. If you or someone you know paid a scammer, here’s what to know to avoid scammers who pretend to be helpers. Get the rest of the story here!

08-03-2026 - As I write this, there are keys on carabiners in the deadbolt locks on my exterior doors. When we leave the house, we take the keys with us. I clip mine on a belt loop. It takes less than ten seconds. The rest of the story!

08-03-2026 - Above our local public library is a social and fitness zone for seniors. I was there one day, surfing the web on my laptop, when a young man offered to "detail" my car in the parking lot. He said he had everything he needed to do the job in his backpack. As much as I like entrepreneurism, I declined for two reasons. First, I didn't think he could do a satisfactory job with what he had in his backpack, and second, I take pride in washing my car. Your mileage may vary.
