0-26-2026 - A man regularly walks his dog on my block. He has a long knife in a sheath on one side, and a semi-automatic pistol on the other. The dog looks like he has a Black Belt in biting.

08-26-2026 - U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Arkansas - LITTLE ROCK—George Elliot Gibson, III, will spend the next 48 months in federal prison for assault with the intent to rob two United States Postal employees. Jonathan D. Ross, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, announced the sentence, which was handed down today by United States District Judge D. P. Marshall, Jr. On September 11, 2024, a federal grand jury indicted Gibson, 28, of Bartlett, Tennessee, in a seven-count Indictment with two counts of assault of a United States Postal employee, one count of attempted robbery of United States property, one count of assaulting and impeding a United States Postal employee, and one count of unlawful possession of a postal key. On March 10, 2026, Gibson pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with the intent to rob a United States Postal employee. In addition to the 48-month sentence, Judge Marshall also sentenced Gibson to serve two years’ supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

What better hint that more people need to create a stable method of self-employment? My tip: Pen and ink. Start writing and selling whatever it is that you wrote. Or, put it on a website like I’m doing here.

08-26-2026 - Good Morning! Today is Wednesday, and my local forecast is calling for a chilly 101 degrees. The hot weather, coupled with the lack of rain, has caused a pause in grass growth, which has slowed my main source of exercise. Today is National Dog Day, National Toilet Paper Day, National Cherry Popsicle Day, National Got Checked Day, National Spark the World Day, and National Webmistress Day. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
08-25-2026 - Quoting the U.S. Postal Service website: "The U.S. Postal Service filed notice today with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) regarding a temporary price change for some package products for the 2026 peak holiday season. This temporary price adjustment is to help cover extra handling costs to ensure a successful peak season." Visit the "Newsroom" at the USPS website if you need more information.
08-25-2026 - In the mail today were offers for a Print & Mail dealership, an ad for an advertising system, a discount advertising club, an offer for a report on becoming a circular mailer, an offer for a report on starting your own Mail Order business, Mail Order leads, and a copy of a well-known adsheet. All materials were professionally printed, for a change!

08-25-2026 - Thirty years ago, there was an ad, frequently seen in the popular Extra Income Mail Order publications, for radio advertising. The station was in the northeastern United States. I don’t know how many dealers advertised there or how successful the ads might have been. The idea was different and interesting. I don’t know what the station’s format was or the audience targeted.

08-25-2026 - In my city, school has been back in session for about a week, and one of my life’s simple joys has returned. That joy is listening to the school buses on my scanner radio. Their communications can be a hoot, and their frequency (channel) alone is worth the cost of my inexpensive Uniden scanner radio. Then there’s our local prison, Walmart, and other businesses using handheld radios, local airports, Amateur (ham) Radio Operators, and a lot more.

08-25-2026 - Good Morning! We momentarily hit 111 degrees yesterday, but it happened between the official hourly readings, so I missed it. It was buried in the “3-day history” on the NWS website. Now, back to business. I’m sometimes amazed at the amount of valuable information people donate to various causes. For example, I know a guy who participates in a “technical” forum. His “post count” is over 10,000. Let’s say his average post is 30 words. Some of this guy’s posts are well above that, but I’ll use 30. That’s 300,000 words he’s posted. Google says the average word count on a single-spaced, typewritten page is 500 words. That comes out to 600 pages. That is a fairly large book. A large book of technical expertise that people in that niche would pay for. But he donated it. My point? Create information products and sell them, or post them to your own website where you can earn from “contextual” advertising. Or, continue to be generous and donate it all. It’s up to you. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
08-24-2026 - I don't know about you, but I sometimes buy things just because I want them, not because I have a legitimate need or use for them. For example, a year or so ago, I bought these tiny speakers. I just had to have them.
08-24-2026 - A good way to make your present car run better is to have a salesperson quote you the price of a new one.
08-24-2026 - According to the Parks on the Air spotter site, an Amateur (ham) Radio Operator is operating Morse code from his bike in Ray Roberts Lake State Park in Texas. That would make a nice contact, but due to lousy band conditions, I can’t hear that station. Also, we’re both in Texas, so his signal might be skipping over me. We're too far apart to hear the ground wave and too close to hear the skywave, or “skip.” I’ll spin the dial and see what else is going on. Check out my Hobby Radio station.
08-24-2026 - In the mail today were the usual MLM and gifting programs. One set of circulars was fairly crappy, complete with black specks and wavy lines. One insert had to be a 37th-generation copy because it was beyond horrible. And yes, the sender was telling me that I, too, could make lots of money and afford crappy sales material. Another envelope contained nice materials, but the same old MLM and gifting programs, just with new names. Another envelope contained professionally printed material, with inserts and a reply envelope. It looked like it came from a major corporation. It was either an MLM or a gifting program, but I couldn’t tell which, with most of the content being “pie in the sky” fluff. The only thing I found valuable was the sender's names for my mailing list.
