08-06-2026 - A local church gives food away to those in need about once a week. A few days ago, I saw a "very luxurious" car in line. I guess anyone can find themselves in need. Maybe I'll hand them some Mail Order adsheets the next time I see them.
08-06-2026 - The Extra Income Mail Order advertising publications are a constant source of amusement. People keep posting ads saying you can earn (put ridiculous number here) dollars a month or year, yet they do it in a 1- or 2-inch display ad or small classified ad. Why would such a fabulously wealthy person be spending time in a low-circulation Mail Order adsheet and not a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal? Asking for a friend.
08-06-2026 - Do you remember "Stew's Reviews", a column by Stew Caverly? It appeared regularly in a few of the larger Mail Order advertising publications. Stew invited Mail Order Dealers to send him a sample of whatever it was they were promoting, and he'd give his thoughts on it in his column. Stew's column has been gone for some time, and I don't think that void has been filled. Do we need a new Stew? Could it be you?

08-06-2026 - Over a dozen years ago, a printed adsheet publisher converted that adsheet to an online publication. He advertised the same number of “hits” for your ad as his print publication had in mail distribution. I found it interesting that (1) he didn’t understand that hits are not the same as visits, and (2) there was no way to predict how much attention any ad would draw. Was he buying website visits? That would not be a good thing. That's just my opinion.

08-06-2026 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, and no yardwork or other chores are planned for today. I was thinking about the “bad guy” reports (bad check writers and other problem customers) that a few dealers were publishing back in the 1990s. Now, I see a few dealers publishing their own bad check writers, but not taking input from other dealers. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
08-05-2026 - From the U.S. Department of Justice - PHILADELPHIA – United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Charles E. Poole III, 48, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced today to 69 months’ imprisonment, five years of supervised release, and victim restitution of more than $1 million by United States District Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl for orchestrating a sprawling identity theft and bank fraud scheme. Judge Schmehl imposed this term of imprisonment to run consecutive to the 32-to-64-year sentence the defendant is currently serving for an unrelated attempted murder conviction in Delaware County. The defendant was charged by indictment in June of 2023 and pleaded guilty last September to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, conspiracy to commit identification document fraud, conspiracy to commit access device fraud, aggravated identity theft, two counts of bank fraud, and two counts of access device fraud.
08-05-2026 - Maybe someday, someone will publish a “Text Ad Big Mail.” I think the name says it all. If you’ve ordered a Big Mail lately, there’s a good chance it consisted mostly of sales circulars, many of which were more hype and cartoon images than actual substance. Why not condense all that into space-saving plain text? Text not formatted to approximate display ads, but in simple, space-saving paragraphs. Dealers can submit a 100-word ad, free of charge, to load it up. Sell it at a fair price. Any takers?

08-05-2026 - From the U.S. Department of Justice - BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – An Arizona man has pleaded guilty to trafficking thousands of pills containing carfentanil into Birmingham, announced U.S. Attorney Phillip W. Williams Jr. - Ignacio Miguel Tirado-Castillo, of Arizona, pleaded guilty to conspiracy with intent to distribute and distribution of a fentanyl analogue and attempt to distribute a fentanyl analogue. In May 2025, Tirado-Castillo was charged by a federal grand jury in Birmingham, Alabama. According to court documents, on December 16, 2024, inspectors with the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) in Denver contacted USPIS inspectors in Birmingham to notify them of a suspicious package sent from Phoenix, Arizona, to Midfield, Alabama. An inspector was at the post office when the package arrived and took custody of it. A K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics in the package. The inspector obtained a federal search warrant for the package. Inside the package was approximately 20,300 “M-30” pills containing carfentanil. Carfentanil is an analogue of the fentanyl compound and is approximately 100 times more potent that fentanyl. Inspectors subsequently identified the mailer as Tirado-Castillo, and he admitted to mailing the package.

08-05-2026 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, and I might do some more lawn mowing today. I’ll need to get it done before we reach our forecasted high of 103 degrees! I’ve done a little more fine-tuning on the advertising terms and conditions. I’ve removed calls for general “income opportunity” ads and will focus on dealer-to-dealer products and services. I have Morse code running in the background on the old Yaesu 857D. I don't want to lose that old-school skill! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
