08-18-2026 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, and a trip to the Post Office is the only activity scheduled for today. There’s a very noticeable scarcity of commission dealerships advertised these days. This is not surprising when you see the multitude of Multi-level Marketing and gifting programs populating our Mail Order advertising publications. Who needs a dealership when they can become rich due to the labor of their downline? I do find some MLM buzzwords, like “reverse three-up,” amusing. Whatever is working for them is fine with me. I’ll take a straight commission dealership. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

08-17-2026 - In the mail today, in addition to the usual "money games," were a flyer on "pipeline safety" from HF Sinclair and a booklet on the Gospel of John from Harvest Time Ministries. Interesting. Neither wanted money. Sinclair did want me to complete a survey, which I declined.

08-17-2026 - The U.S. Postal Service remembers Post Office Inspector Elbert P. Lamberth, who died in the line of duty on this day in 1917. Lamberth was shot and killed by a rural carrier who had been involved in a dispute with his postmaster.

08-17-2026 - I mowed the backyard this morning. I could have waited a few more days since the heat and lack of rain have slowed things down, but I wanted the exercise. I’m thumbing through the popular printed Mail Order publications looking for low-circulation adsheets in which to advertise. Sadly, there are very few.

08-17-2026 - There are a couple of dealers out there publishing “mini mails.” These are just envelopes filled with the small display ads of other dealers. One supplier of mini mails is well known in the Extra Income Mail Order field. I think there’s room for more. In the same category is postcard mailing. This is sort of like card deck advertising, only you don’t have to print the cards. The customer supplies them. We need more “creative” advertising avenues.

08-17-2026 - Good Morning! It's Monday and, as you can see, I posted very little yesterday. I’ll have to play a little catch-up today. But just a little! Let’s start with the idea that reprint reports are a good way to get your message, or at least your name and contact information, spread far and wide. That is, of course, if the person reprinting keeps that information intact. One way to keep it intact is to create the document as an image-based PDF rather than as a paper copy. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

08-16-2026 - One of the chief worries of today's business executives is the large number of unemployed still on the payrolls.

08-16-2026 - Good Morning! It’s Sunday, and I’m having memories of my old phone/fax machine. Did you ever have one? I think I bought mine in 1995. One of my not-so-fond memories is how soon it became the victim of “junk” faxes. I soon took great joy in hitting the STOP button as soon as one of them started. I knew it was junk when it began with graphics instead of text. My hate for paper-wasting junk faxes was the subject of a “Letter to the Editor of mine, which was published in Home Computing Magazine. Do you remember Fax on Demand? You dialed up an advertised fax machine, entered a code, and it would send you a fax on the subject listed in the ad. I thought about getting such a system and loading it with sales material from Mail Order Dealers, each with its own code number, and advertised in the popular Mail Order publications. I never followed through with the idea. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

08-15-2026 - Today, I received one of the biggest, professionally prepared and assembled mailings ever, promoting an unknown moneymaking program. I say unknown because after a 12-page sales letter, a 2-page insert, a 1-page certificate, and a 56-page booklet, I couldn’t tell what it was about other than making money by some means. I have a good idea, though. I didn’t read any of it, just scanned for the usual fantastic keywords, of which there were many. The whole package is so beautiful; I hate to toss it in the trash. What I will do is study it learn new marketing ideas. Then I’ll toss it in the trash.
