08-24-2026 - At 2:00 PM, it was 109 degrees outside. I met my USPS Mail Carrier at the door with an ice-cold Monster Orange Dreamsicle drink and thanked him for his service.
08-24-2026 - Years ago, I read a story about a company that wanted all transactions to be sent via one of the big-name package delivery companies rather than the U.S. Postal Service, citing the USPS's unreliability as the reason. What they were doing was avoiding the jurisdiction of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. What they did not avoid was the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
08-24-2026 - From Wikipedia - A self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE), stamped self-addressed envelope (SSAE), or stamped addressed envelope (SAE) is an envelope with the sender's name and address on it, plus affixed paid postage, that is mailed to a company or private individual. Important uses for SASEs are when requesting information about products or services, or when sending manuscripts to literary agents. (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License 3.0)

08-24-2026 - Good Morning! It's Monday, and a 112-degree (upgraded from 111) forecast awaits our sunrise. My mission today is to stay indoors and stay cool. Or, at least not hot. My air conditioner has been doing a good job. I continue to fine-tune the advertising offer. I don't host ads for money-making programs, but I've been experimenting with allowing dealers to announce that they have such programs and will send the info upon request, without including the details of the programs in the ad. Today is Kobe Bryant Day, National Knife Day, Vesuvius Day, Pluto Demoted Day, National Peach Pie Day, International Strange Music Day, and William Wilberforce Day. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
08-23-2026 - A man in Alabama complains that his new car has been recalled by the dealer - there was a defect in his bank account.
08-23-2026 - The Extra Income Mail Order industry could really use some adsheet masthead design. I base this on more than a few that I see. Website content is another needed product. I wonder if more dealers would put up websites if they didn’t have to write some or all of the content? After all, most Mail Order websites are 100% advertising with no editorial content. I’d spend more time on them if they had regularly updated non-advertising content. Maybe they think articles would distract from the advertising. I think it would have the opposite effect. How about “apps” for Mail Order Dealers? What would an app do? I have no idea, but I’m sure someone could come up with something and make a few dollars with it.
08-23-2026 - Out of curiosity, I visited a website I saw in a Mail Order publication. Upon arrival, I found that I had to input the “user ID” of the person who sent me to the site. No name, no business. This is the way it should be. I’ve seen more than a few ads over the years where dealers promote something on a website, but you can order it there, completely circumventing the referring dealer. This is not cool. The ads placed by the dealer or broker are not free!

08-23-2026 - Good Morning! It's Sunday, and yet another scorching day - 109 degrees - is forecast. Not as scorching as tomorrow, which is forecast to be 111 degrees! As for the Mail Order industry, I’ll say again that we need new reports with reproduction rights. I still see the same old reports that have been circulating for 30 years or more. Some dealers report seeing 40-year-old reports. Don’t think printed reports won’t sell just because we’re in the TikTok age. Does TikTok have your report about what it’s like to (insert employment, hobby, or other experience here)? No, it doesn’t. Write it, attach reproduction rights, and advertise it here. Of course, if you’d rather not include reproduction rights, that’s okay, too. Maybe I'll make an Amateur (ham) Radio Morse code contact today. I'm falling behind in that activity.
08-22-2026 - Today, I received a 1931 copy of Blake’s Advertiser, a 4-page classified advertising publication. Included were a flyer for circular mailing and a smaller classified ad insert. The mailing envelope, addressed to someone in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and bearing a 1 1/2¢ Warren G. Harding stamp, was literally falling apart. I photographed the set and will store it in the plastic protective envelope in which it was mailed to me. I bought it on eBay. How do you buy a 1 1/2¢ stamp? In even-numbered sets I guess. The U.S. 1 1/2¢ coin was last minted in 1857
08-22-2026 - There are two periods when Congress does no business: one is before the holidays, and the other, after.
08-22-2026 - I've long suspected that bacon is the most expensive meat on the market. Not meat and fat, just the lean meat. Note the price per pound you paid. Trim all the fat away, weigh the lean meat, and recalculate the price per pound. It will at least double. But would bacon be bacon without fat? Of course not!
