09-01-2026 - On this day in 1919, Postal Inspector in Charge George Daniel drowned when his department vehicle plunged into the Hyrum Canal in northern Utah during a thunderstorm. Two other employees in the vehicle survived.

09-01-2026 - From the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis - BEA Announcement: Annual Update of GDP and Related Statistics Starts Sept. 30 - SUITLAND, Md. — BEA will release the 2026 annual update of gross domestic product and related statistics beginning Sept. 30, part of its regular effort to better measure the U.S. economy. For the first time, updated state and county statistics will also start to flow to the public on the same day as the national and industry numbers. BEA updates and refines its statistics each fall by bringing in more complete source data that were previously unavailable and incorporating methodological improvements. This year the update period for most statistics will run from the first quarter of 2021 through the first quarter of 2026. Some state and county statistics will be updated back to 2009 or 2013.

08-31-2026 - In the mail today was the always interesting Scoopified magazine. It'll take me a while to thumb through it. Also in the mail were the usual MLM and gifting programs. It has been my experience that less sophisticated programs are quick to say, "This program is legal." The more sophisticated types, like one I received today, use at least half a page of mumbo jumbo in an attempt to convey that message. In the end, though, the message is the same: consult a lawyer before investing! Okay, I’m just having a little fun here. If programs are working for you, that’s good.

08-31-2026 - A few years ago, I received a loaded 9 x 12" envelope from the creators of a "certain program." The outside of the envelope had a "Thank You" sticker. I knew I didn't order anything from them, so I was a little curious. The envelope was loaded with materials for the program and a letter stating that a participant had chosen me to join. This meant that I got enrolled in that program and could start mailing and making money. Well, no! I appreciate the gesture, but I don't do programs. I had no intention of doing anything with the material, so I hope that was the end of it. This is not a statement against the program, as I know nothing about it. It's very popular. Actually, I think this "freebie" idea is a good way to jump-start a program or a conventional commission dealership.
