09-25-2026 - In the mail today were an MLM program and a gifting program. That was it. The gifting program had 14 positions to send money to. The last 12 of those positions were occupied by someone named "No One Here Yet." That's what the Mail Order world has become. Dreadfully uninteresting and uninspiring.

09-24-2026 - I stopped by a small, locally owned restaurant to pick up a "to go" order. While I waited, someone came up from the kitchen, wearing plastic gloves. Cool, except they came from behind the counter and opened the cold drink cooler - used by the public - to retrieve a drink. What's the point of wearing gloves to protect the food if you drag germs back to the kitchen? At a national chain restaurant, I saw an employee wearing those clear food-serving gloves taking a smoke break in his car. I watched him walk back to the restaurant. But, there's more! Several other friends and I used to frequent a certain restaurant in my city for lunch. In Texas, the old "chips and salsa" was the standard appetizer. One day, after our meal, we noticed the waitress dump our uneaten chips back into the chip bin. The bin, by the way, was in plain view of the dining room. This restaurant has been closed for many years now. Before it closed, we asked a waitress at another chip-and-salsa eatery if they recycled the chips too. Their chip bin was out of view, by the way. She looked around and told us they recycled them if there was a bunch left in the bowl. That restaurant is still in operation, although under new ownership. Look out for similar clown foolery in your area! Can you say covid-swine-flu-itis? We're all going to die anyway, so I guess we should worry about something else and be glad we don't see everything that goes on behind the scenes.
09-24-2026 - Education is a wonderful thing but it doesn't go far enough. It merely teaches a person how to speak, not when or how long. And neither does it teach them exactly when to shut up.
09-24-2026 - It was 1970, about a year before I joined the Army. I had a motorcycle dirt-biking accident that caused my left knee to twist out of the socket and back in. It hurt. Over the next year, it popped out and in several times. It hurt. Fast forward to 1971, U.S. Army Infantry training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and the hand grenade range. It was my turn. The instructor handed me a genuine fragmentation grenade. Now, to be honest, I don't remember whether he or I pulled the pin, but I had a firm grip on the handle, so that's all that mattered at that point. Off I ran down the lane, screaming as instructed. When I reached the soft dirt area where I was supposed to throw the grenade over the wall, my knee did its in-and-out thing. It hurt. I went down hard. The fact that you're reading this means I didn't drop the grenade. I came to my senses, managed to stand up, and threw the grenade over the wall. Barely. BOOM! Next, I took a Jeep ride to the hospital to get that knee checked.
