09-30-2026 - A committee is comprised of five persons - one does the work, three give him moral support, and the fifth gives the story to the news media.

09-30-2026 - Do you remember when WebTV came out several decades ago? At the time, I subscribed to an email list about online marketing. I remember posts from web page designers fretting about making sure the websites they designed for customers would display properly on WebTV. I thought this was ass-backward thinking. Since there were relatively few services like WebTV but many website designers, these designers should force these services to adhere to a single protocol instead of making the masses jump through these design hoops. I'm not a website designer, so maybe my thinking was ass-backward.

09-30-2026 - I’m still working on my first cup of coffee while listening to the local school bus communications on my scanner radio. It’s cheap entertainment. You buy the scanner once, and it entertains you for years. Dozens of other frequencies also keep me entertained, informed, or both.

09-30-2026 - The only time I see ads for conventional products and services is when they're bundled with acknowledgments or checking copies from advertising publishers. Sometimes I see these ads bundled with MLM or gifting program circulars. This is unusual because I think a lot of “gifting program” enthusiasts are “one-trick ponies.” I could be wrong. I understand that, since the profit margins on conventional products and services are a little low for solo direct mail campaigns. It's adsheet, magazine, tabloid, website, and "back end" advertising for those types of products and services. Wait, are there any tabloids left?

09-29-2026 - This is still the land of opportunity. Where else could you earn enough to pay the interest on what you owe?

09-29-2026 - On a few postal worker forums, I see staffing as a common complaint. Poor management, which drives resignations and early retirements, is often cited as the cause. Isn't this an issue at many, if not most, large organizations? As for the Post Office, could employees be depressed about all the counterfeit stamps on the streets and in the mailboxes?

09-29-2026 - I’m listening to a local Amateur (ham) Radio Operator attempting to make contact with “hams” aboard the International Space Station. I heard him last evening, too. He apparently isn’t checking any of the online tracking sites, or he would know there are no scheduled passes for yesterday or today. If you didn’t know, licensed “ham” radio operators are always on the ISS, and they make regularly scheduled ham radio contacts with schools around the globe. Sometimes, they’ll answer random calls from “hams” on the ground. Plug 145.800 MHz into your scanner radio, if you have one, and you’ll catch an occasional contact. Sometimes, you’ll hear “hams” using the repeater on the ISS to contact other “hams” on the ground. To hear those contacts, plug 437.800 MHz into your scanner radio. To see the ISS pass over your town, Google “Spot the Station” to find NASA tracking information. At night, the ISS will be the brightest moving object in the sky (reflecting sunlight coming from over the horizon). Also Google "Amateur Radio on the International Space Station."

09-29-2026 - From the U.S. Postal Service - quote - The U.S. Postal Service today released its ninth Hanukkah stamp, featuring a colorful digital illustration of a dreidel to honor the eight-day Jewish holiday observed by millions of people in the United States and around the world. A dedication ceremony was held at the Touro Synagogue.

09-29-2026 - Not far from me, an out-of-town company is doing major construction work, including assembling several massive metal buildings. The construction crew is using those small, license-free Family Radio Service handheld units (aka bubble-pack radios) for communications. While not always entertaining at the construction site, it's another story when they take the radios back to the hotel. A few after-work beers and the radio fun begins. My scanner radio is a source of never-ending joy!
