My Hobby Radio Station

I've been a CB Radio Operator since 1964, and an Amateur (ham) Radio Operator since 1982. I've held an Amateur "Extra" license since 1983. I also have a General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS ) license.

Top left is the Yaesu 857D Amateur (ham) Radio transceiver. It transmits on 160-10 meter bands, 6 meters, 2 meters, and 70 centimeters, with 100 watts on HF/6m, 50 watts on 2m, and 20 watts on 70cm, featuring wide receive coverage from 0.1-56, 76-108, 118-164, and 420-470 MHz. The 857D is the radio I use for Morse code contacts. Below that is the TEKPOWER 30 amp switching power supply. Top right is the President McKinley AM/SSB CB Radio. Below that is the Yaesu FT-2980 Amateur (ham) Radio Two-Meter (VHF) 80-watt transceiver.

Below that is the MFJ-941E antenna tuner. Out front is the Uniden BC365CRS scanner radio. I use it to monitor Walmart, Target, local Ham Radio Operators, including Skyward Storm Spotters, city buses, school buses, and other entities. Next to the scanner is the Putikeeg Morse code straight key attached to the Yaesu 857D. Putikeeg spelled backward is Geek it up! I don't currenty use the FRS, GMRS, and MURS radios, but I monitor it all.

I use a Zero Five 10-40 meter ground plane antenna for both the Yaesu 857D and the President CB Radio. I use a Cushcraft Ringo Ranger II antenna for ham VHF work. I don't use UHF. I have two discone "storm" antennas in the attic. One is connected to the scanner. I don't use amplifiers. The D-104 microphone in the back is not used. I bought it at a "hamfest" for $20 because I always wanted one. I don't know why because I think they're kind of ugly.
